Wessel Nijman has been the imperious king of the ProTour this year, putting himself onto the coattails of an exclusive group of players who have won the most ProTour titles in a single year. Nijman has already won eight titles this year — six Players Championships and two European Tour titles — and overall he has 11 titles stretching back to 2024, not including 12 prior Development Tour titles. He has now done something that only two other players have done: win eight or more in a singular season.
Michael van Gerwen's 2015 was eclipsed when Nijman won the Slovak Darts Open this past weekend, and he has followed that into the realms of 2017 Van Gerwen, who won eight titles that year. Phil Taylor, who is ahead of them, is perhaps the most impressive, as 'The Power' did it in the era when it was just Pro Tours. Taylor is next up with nine in 2009, and he also had 11 the year before, which was also achieved by MVG in 2016.
The imperious best of all time is Van Gerwen back in 2018, when MVG was at his pure pomp, winning 12 titles that year. Nijman has to win four more to level that. This is an era when the likes of Luke Littler, Luke Humphries, and others also don't attend many tournaments, while back in Van Gerwen's best eras, many of the top names played everything. So Nijman may find it easier to get towards that mark, but it remains ultra impressive for him to be in elite company with players devised by some as the best of all time.
Nijman's senior roll of honour includes two PDC European Tour titles in 2026 (European Trophy, Slovak Open), one Players Championship in 2024 (Players Championship 24), two Players Championships in 2025 (Players Championships 30, 34), and six Players Championships in 2026 (Players Championships 2, 8, 10, 12, 14, 21), for a total of 11 PDC Pro Tour titles from 2024–2026.
