James Wade celebrated his first-ever World Series of Darts title in style, dancing at the airport in front of the trophy after clinching the Australian Darts Masters in Wollongong. The 43-year-old Englishman dashed the hopes of Aussie star Brody Klinge, winning 8-5 with an average of 101.62 to add another valuable title to his already stacked CV.
Wade's path to glory was highlighted by a stunning first-round performance, where he demolished Tim Pusey 6-0 with an average of 112.73. He then edged past Stephen Bunting in a much closer quarter-final before taking down Gerwyn Price 7-4 to set up a final against Klinge, Australia's new darting hero after an unlikely run.
The celebrations continued all the way to the airport as Wade prepared for the long flight back to England. In a video posted on social media, the usually serious and focused Wade showed a different side, waltzing towards the trophy precariously placed on his suitcase and finishing with a choreography point towards the camera.
The caption read: "I've got a flight in a few hours so I'd better calm down, but this is what it feels like to win my first World Series event. After all these years, there's still nothing like lifting a trophy."
After two decades competing at the top of the sport, these scenes prove Wade's hunger and motivation to win more. With autumn approaching and major tournaments set to come thick and fast, Wade looks to back up this showing Down Under with more accolades on the oche.
