James Wade clinched his maiden World Series of Darts title at the 2026 Australian Darts Masters, defeating home qualifier Brody Klinge 8-5 in the final in Wollongong. Despite Klinge posting the higher average of 104.56 to Wade's 101.62, the Englishman's experience proved decisive as he punished the Australian's missed opportunities to end a remarkable run and cap a superb weekend Down Under.
Wade's path to the final was far from straightforward. In the quarter-finals, Stephen Bunting surged 5-2 ahead and stood one leg from victory, but Wade fought back with a 164 checkout and a 104 finish to force a deciding leg. After opening the decider with five perfect darts, Wade pinned double 10 to complete a 6-5 comeback. He then faced Gerwyn Price in the semi-finals, falling 2-0 behind before reeling off four consecutive legs, including back-to-back 11-darters, to take control. Price threatened to stay in touch, but Wade sealed a 7-4 victory on double five to reach his first World Series final.
Klinge's route was even more remarkable. The Australian qualifier followed his first-round upset of Ross Smith by knocking out Gian van Veen 6-4, averaging 97.90 and holding his nerve after missing chances to extend his lead. Five perfect darts set up an 11-darter as he moved within one leg of the semi-finals, before closing out on double five. Jonny Clayton then stood in his way, but Klinge produced his best performance of the tournament. Locked at 3-3 at the interval, he broke again with an 11-darter and later moved 6-5 ahead with a 102 checkout. With the biggest win of his career within reach, he saved his best for last, taking out 170 to complete a 7-5 victory with a 101.59 average and book a final against Wade.
In the final, Klinge opened with a 180, but Wade took the first leg on double 20 and then broke throw with back-to-back maximums to lead 2-0. The Australian responded with an 82 checkout and capitalised on Wade misses to level at 2-2. Wade refused to let momentum shift, pinning tops and double five to head into the interval 4-2 ahead. A 108 checkout after the break stretched his lead to 5-2, and he moved four clear after Klinge agonisingly missed double 10 for a 140 finish. Klinge fought back with three consecutive legs, including a superb 140 checkout, to reduce the deficit to 6-5. He had a dart to level, but it went begging, and Wade moved within one leg of the title. Klinge opened the 13th leg with six perfect darts, but two missed darts at double 20 proved decisive. Wade stepped in on double 10 to complete the 8-5 victory, immediately putting his fingers to his ears in celebration towards the Wollongong crowd.
After years as one of the PDC's most decorated major winners, 'The Machine' finally added a World Series of Darts title to his collection, while Klinge's breakthrough weekend ended one victory short of an extraordinary home triumph.
