Fallon Sherrock produced a dominant display to deny Lisa Ashton in the final of PDC Women's Series Event 18, securing a comprehensive 5-0 whitewash victory at the Mattioli Arena in Leicester on Saturday 22 August.
Ashton, who had earlier triumphed in Event 17, came within one match of completing a back-to-back double but ran out of steam in the final, averaging just 61 as Sherrock claimed the title. The defeat was a stark contrast to Ashton's earlier success, where she beat Lauryn Salter 5-0 in the Event 17 final.
In Event 17, Ashton had navigated a tough path to the title, overcoming Gemma Hayter (5-4), Grace Ferridge (5-1) and Lauren Hall (4-1) in the earlier rounds. Salter, meanwhile, had reached the final with a 5-4 semi-final win over Jade Gofford, having also beaten Emma Pearce (5-2) and Italian prospect Aurora Fochesato (4-1).
Notably, Sherrock's Event 17 campaign ended in the last 16 at the hands of Aileen De Graaf, despite hitting a tournament-high 94.34 average in a last 32 win over Karolina Ratajska. Elsewhere, Event 18 saw semi-final runs from Gemma Hayter and Karolina Ratajska, plus impressive performances from Trina Gulliver and Kirsty Hutchinson.
The weekend's action is pivotal for PDC World Darts Championship hopes, with the top three on the Women's Series Order of Merit qualifying for Ally Pally and the winner also securing a Grand Slam of Darts spot. Lisa Ashton currently leads the race following Beau Greaves' likely departure from the series, while Sherrock faces jeopardy in her quest to secure a spot.
