PHIL TAYLOR: 'I WAS DRINKING VODKA EVERY NIGHT' - 16-TIME WORLD CHAMPION REVEALS TEETOTAL LIFESTYLE OVERHAUL

Phil Taylor has revealed he has completely overhauled his lifestyle since retiring from professional darts, swapping nightly vodka for daily exercise and a healthy diet. The 66-year-old, widely regarded as the greatest player of all time with 16 world titles, has cut out alcohol entirely and now starts each day with water and a workout in his garage.

Speaking to The Smith Brothers Not a Podcast, Taylor detailed his new routine: "I get bottled water with electrolytes. That is my first drink. Then I go in the garage and do 1000m on the rower. Then I go on the treadmill and do 5000 steps." He also revealed he used the medication Mounjaro for six weeks, which he says "changed my mindset 100 per cent."

The most dramatic change is his relationship with alcohol. "I was drinking vodka every night. I went off that. I didn't want it at all. So I'm teetotal now," Taylor admitted. If he fancies a beer, he now opts for alcohol-free Budweiser, which he notes is only 46 calories. His diet has also been transformed, with chicken salad now a regular meal. "I would never eat salads before. I was a salad dodger," he joked.

Despite his healthier lifestyle, Taylor insists he is not planning a professional comeback. However, he has started practising again, albeit in short sessions. "I've started practising again now. I'm only doing an hour a day. I'll start stepping it up a little bit later, probably an hour and a half. I'm enjoying it. It's good," he said. He also revealed that his grandson Nathan is showing promise, adding: "He's not bad. He could play county."
